Valuable feedback from the field enables us to make specific improvements to our products and tailor them to suit the exact requirements of professional automotive mechanics. Our tensioner pulleys are an excellent current example of this.
We found out that many workshops use circlip pliers to fit the tensioner pulleys rather than the correct tension wrench. This is far from ideal, of course, as the spring can become unhooked while fiddling around with the pliers. That’s why this job calls for a special tool. But we went a step further and also thought of a way of modifying the design to make installation easier. We changed the V-shaped design of the point where the spring is hooked into place so that it now has a U shape. As a result, the spring can’t slip out of the hooking point. This makes things considerably easier for mechanics and goes a long way to ensuring more reliable fitting. Note that this design of tensioner pulley is only available from Continental in the timing belt kits CT1115K1 and CT1115WP1 for Fiat and Lancia models with 1.2 or 1.4-liter engines.
It is, though, still advised to always use the appropriate special tool, of course.
