The requirements relating to timing belts for driving timing gear are constantly rising. Downsizing means that modern engines are operating at higher loads and higher temperatures. The belts are expected to last longer and longer under extreme conditions – which ContiTech ensures by means of a Teflon fabric coating.
The ContiTech Power Transmission Group has been a dedicated user of Teflon coatings since 2000 – and is constantly further developing the technology. Belts with even more wear-resistant material are currently being trialed. ContiTech belts have a black anti-wear layer using Teflon as a fabric coating on the toothed face. This anti-wear layer is patented. The use of aramid fibers in the compound also further increases the belts’ mechanical properties, and the glass cord tension member withstands counterbending extremely well and is longitudinally stable.“All our belts have proved their performance capability and endurance in the automakers’ approval tests and are fitted as original equipment in many engines,” declares Markus Pirsch, Head of the Marketing Service. After all, thanks to its strong presence in the original equipment market, ContiTech is always able to offer the aftermarket state-of-the-art materials shortly after the vehicle goes into series production.
